About the Author
Derry Koralek has more than 15 years experience designing and delivering training for early childhood staff. She is a co-author of each edition of the Caring for... series. She has developed technical assistance guides for supervisors and trainers in child development programs in the military and in Head Start and provides training throughout the United States. She is currently the editor of Young Children, a publication of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Diane Trister Dodge, founder and president of Teaching Strategies, Inc., is the author of numerous books, articles, and training materials on early childhood education. She is the lead author on all of Teaching Strategies books, including the popular The Creative Curriculum�...series.
After earning a Master's degree from Bank Street College of Education, Diane earned 30 years of experience working with teachers and administrators first as a kindergarten teacher, and then as the education coordinator for a Head Start program in rural Mississippi. Her experiences in the field have taught her the value of curriculum and training materials that articulate a clear philosophy and practical approach to meaningful learning. Her belief that curriculum and assessment are intracately linked led to the development of The Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum and The Creative Curriculum Developmental Assessment Toolkit for Ages 3-5. She has also written many books for parents including Building Your Baby's Brain, Reading Right from the Start, and A Parent's Guide to Early Childhood Education.
Diane is a renowned speaker and trainer, and a former member of the Governing Board of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She currently serves on the Board of the Center for the Child Care Work Force and other local Washington, DC organizations.

Peter Pizzolongo is currently the director of the Analytical Support and Technical Assistance Services Division of Consulting Service and Research. He has over 25 years of experience as a training and technical assistance provider, program evalutor, Head Start and childcare agency administrator, human services program manager, and early childhood education specialist. Peter is a nationally recognized expert in child development and early childhood education, authoring or co-authoring more than 30 publications, videotape programs, and other resources. He has conducted training programs on numerous topics, including child and youth development, health and mental health, nutrition, parenting, victim support, violence prevention, and program evalutions, as well as his extensive work providing staff development on The Creative Curriculum.

This is a GREAT, GREAT book. I wish I had the time to read each and every page. This book helped me out so much with my CDA class. It has answers to all of the teachers questions and the examples are great. Well written, well organized. I use this book for references in my Day Care. I will never sell or loan this book - ever. I wish they had a DVD or CD so that I could be learning and doing some of the million other things I had to do at once.

This book is in excellent condition and the information it contains is priceless. I am a care giver for preschool age children and the information contained in this book about cognitive, social-emotional, and communication development,(just to name a few) gives me information on the proper approach to use to ensure children reach their true potential.

Definitely Needs Updating

Many people who have used this book in a class said it was a good introductory book but it was a very underwhelming read. I was not a big fan of this textbook because of how it was written. Information that was covered in the text was not as detailed as I would have liked. Many times I felt that I had to do my own research to better understand the basics of the topic I had read about in a chapter. It got to the point where reading the chapters became an unpleasant chore but I kept reading knowing it would soon be over. I regret reading this textbook and would not have chosen to read it if it had not been mandated reading for my university's course. All I can say is I can see why a new edition has been published. Hopefully it is better written in the newer version.

The author really spent a lot of time researching the book, and it appeared to be pretty unbiased. I would not get all my labor history, and how it works all just from this book though! Another book I would recommended for that is "They're Bankrupting Us!" And 20 Other Myths about Unions ~ by Bill Fletcher Jr.

Liked this - a lot!

This is an epic work of space opera by a man who is extremely well read and understands history. Strange for Science Fiction, but his characters have dimension, his situations have depth and nuances and his world has the entire expanse of human history behind it. The book is like Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tails" set in outer space crossed with elements of Beowulf and sprinkled with liberal doses of Keats. Very entertaining and thought provoking.

Ended too soon

All that back story, all that buildup, all the mental gear shifts to keep up with everything going on, and no payoff. The writing felt solid and handled well. With some of the stories being more enjoyable than the others, some more interesting, some more emotional, some more shocking, and yet, by the end I was tired of the journey and ready for the ending. Perhaps it is in the next novel or the one after that. Perhaps I'll never know

way better than I thought it was going to be. It has a super goofy premise, but the story is very engrossing. I love good science fiction, most of the books seem to be written by 15 year olds for 12 year olds. This is definitely original and very interesting

Neimark's preface establishes the context beautifully, and the introduction gives some insight into the mathematically and socially complex system of which the texts translated here are a part. The interplay of chance and necessity enacted in the divination process is a fascinating window on a Yoruba world that is full of insights into the "organic" character of both time and space. Great Reference

Afolabi Epega did a great job in his explanation of the 256 Odus. The "western" observation and the introduction written by Philip Neimark could have been left out and the book would have been better off. It is a shame that Oluwo Afolabi Epega is even remotely affiliated with Philip Neimark in this book

Here is the best explanation of the 256 Odus I have seen. The "western" translations help bring this always fluid system into a mainstream view. I would recommend this for any aspiring Babalowa.

Their are,quite allot of materials that,can not be gotten in certain areas,material.Other than that,in conversation with those who practice Ifa tradition,it is worth the time to read these works of Odu ,The English translation is the best,opposed to Bascom,with salako interrpetations,some methods of usage of certain item is very good account according to some ,in conversation does it work I am not the one to ask...as some would say it is very clever ,and clean way of using spiritual application,It concepts of benevolent & malevolent ,and how to stay clear of such aggressive forces and how to maintain good graces is wonderfuly written.

About the Author
Martin McDonagh was born in London and has since worked as a playwright, screenwriter and film director. His first play, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, was nominated for six Tony awards, of which it won four, and the Laurence Olivier Award. In 2003, his play The Pillowman had its world premiere at the Royal National Theatre and received the 2004 Olivier Award. In 2006, Martin McDonagh won an Oscar for his short film Six Shooter. His most recent works include, A Behanding in Spokane, The Guard and Seven Psychopaths.

Same womb as Lt. of Inishmore, different baby.

From the same writer as Lieutenant of Inishmore, McDonagh brings a hell of an English ride to the stage.

Generating the same crazy premises as well as the addicting dialogue, McDonagh hooks you and doesn't let you go until the end. Just like LoI, it's a roller coaster, but I think his themes are more identifiable and the message is clear; the justice system, wherever you go, doesn't really care.

The dialogue makes you cringe while laughing and leaves you gripping the corner of the book at times, the author has always had this effect on his readers (and viewers when it's produced into a play) and Hangmen is no exception. The pacing is (I don't use this word lightly) phenomenal. The message satirical but is built with more than a few layers of truth.

The only con to this play is that you'll be left wanted more by the end.

The latest from one of the two Irish playwrights/trailblazers, this play is HILARIOUS. Forgive the pun, but it it's uproarious GALLOWS HUMOR. I love this man's work, and can't wait to see it performed. It's a blast to read!

At first when I began this book I was concerned it would be too technical, The cover did not reflect what I thought might be in the book, which is a good thing. You'll find a lot of things will be similar to other books you've read and self-improvement topics however this really condenses it quite well.
