About the Author

Daniela Isac is Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Concordia University. She has taught at the University of Bucharest and held research fellowships at the universities of Oxford and Quebec. Her published work includes articles in Revue Roumaine de Linguistique and Linguistic Inquiry.
Charles Reiss is Associate Professor of Linguistics at Concordia University, Montreal, co-editor with Gillian Ramchand of The Oxford Handbook of Linguistic Interfaces (OUP 2007), and co-author with Mark Hale of The Phonological Enterprise (OUP 2008).

One of the best motivational books I have ever read.

Charles Capps gives a very clear, concise and workable methodology to using God's word to achieve financial success. He teaches that the shield of faith (Ephesians 6) is a protection placed all around us by the confession of the Word, that protects us from Satan's attacks while at the same time attracting God's blessings. If we confess abundance continually, even in the face of lack, we will, by faith receive God's promises.
Mr. Capps makes it clear in this book that there is no magic to this. We must follow God's system for success, such as giving of tithes and offerings. He warns us not to confuse sound business practices with faith and vice versa. I like one warning he gave to a new couple just turned on to the word of faith movement: "If you can't make it by faith with a job, you certainly won't make it by faith without a job!". This was in reply to the couple just waiting for God's blessing and not taking a job that was offered to the husband that was at a lower rate of pay than he was expecting.
I consider Success Motivation Through The Word to be one of the very best faith books I have ever read and recommend it very highly.

Read the Bible 1st!!! Then read this book with discernment

When reading any book that teaches faith, prosperity, and spiritual gifts, always use discernment and read the Bible daily, as my Pastor Art Aragon always says, we need to get in the word daily, and not only get onto the word but live the word!!! This book is motivational more then religious, however there are many scriptures in the book, just remember you should also look up the scriptures in the Bible for yourself and make sure that they are NOT taken out of context. I was raised in the Calvary Chapels, and later in life decided I wanted a more charasmatic experience in my life, and belive me the Holy Spirit is stil lworking miricles everyday. I too ka lot of good things away from this book, especially positive thinking from the word of God.

This book is full of scripture that teaches how to stay positive & succeed in life.
Mr Capps uses the old King James version when he quotes a verse but always give the reference so the reader can look it up in a modern version for clarification.
Mr Capps explains how to apply these verses to life situations today.
I highly recommend this book.

Puts a smile on your litso

Well oh my little brothers, patient and tolerant though I may be, I just couldn't help but have a malenky smeck at some of the grazhny customer reviews by the like indignant vecks and ptitsas here. Like the starry ptitsa who creeches about the like excessive ultraviolence, saying this is not her idea of "entertainment". Personally droogies, I find Burgess's ingenious creation of a whole new vernacular language and youth subculture to be hilariously horrorshow entertaining. The more specific point the naysayers miss is that Burgess is using the violence merely as a vehicle to pose some deep moral questions about the nature of morality and the seeming impossibility of expunging violence from the human soul. A lot of reviewers are also falling into the trap of thinking that Burgess intended merely to shock or to sensationalise, which couldn't be further from the truth. His tongue is very firmly in cheek. Persevere through the first chapter or so and the nadsat becomes strangely "right", somehow enhancing the realness of the world Burgess creates. 4 stars rather than five only because of a redemption story in the final chapter which doesn't quite fit. Nevertheless, this remains a courageous and darkly comedic philosophical masterpiece which will reward those willing to push through the intimidating language.

Just so you know, the Kindle version of the Norton edition is just the novel and Burgess' intro. It doesn't contain the supplementary materials that make a Norton edition valuable to have.

When I started reading the novel for the first time it seemed boring and the language was also very difficult

A clockwork orange by Anthony Burges was first written in 1962 is a completely different type of novel that one would expect to read at the first place. When I started reading the novel for the first time it seemed boring and the language was also very difficult. The author uses a lot of slang words. The main character of the novel is a 14 year old named Alex when the novel starts. The novel is very violent. The author has used a very challenging vocabulary other than the standard language. I really liked some of the words like milicents droogs and devochkas are used to describe the police, brothers and girls I mean that seemed cool. Initially when I read the book it seemed to be very disturbing and boring, Alex seems like a complete psychopath at the beginning but then he kind of changes This is a classic book it may seem very boring at times and you might not want to read it but as the novel goes the story becomes more and more intriguing.. I started liking this book when I read the fourth of it. It was easy to understand after a while even a glossary of the words is given at the back to get familiar with the terms used by the writer. I read it thoroughly with attention so I could understand even the more minute details about the story. You might want to read it more than once also. Like there is part in the book where Alex jumps from an apartment window. Before jumping off he says, “I shut my glazzies and fell the cold winds on my litso, then I jumped. “ After this line he tells that, “I jumped, O my brothers, and fell on the sidewalk hard, but I did not snuff it, oh no if I had snuffed it I would not be here to write what I have written.” This is first time I got to know that Alex is actually writing the story otherwise it’s like he is just telling his story. There is also a lot of code switching in the novel as well. . I liked the 21 chapter idea of Anthony Burges. His book had 21 chapters as like a man gets mature when he is 21. Book was very thoughtfully the book ends differently as there are only 20 chapters in the US version of the book. I wish the US version had 21 full chapters as originally written by Anthony Burges.

Gabrielle �milie Le Tonnelier de Breteuil, Marquise Du Ch�telet wrote her last lover, the younger army officer Jean Fran�ois de Saint-Lambert, this self-confident statement (" 'My exterior is always the image of my heart.' ") about herself. In Judith P. Zinsser's biography of this extraordinary eighteenth-century woman, the marquise does appear to have lived her high-born, offbeat, and accomplished forty-two years very much that way.

Judith P. Zinsser's softcover Emilie Du Ch�telet : Daring Genius of the Enlightenment (previously published in hardcover with the title La Dame d'Esprit) is a meticulously researched biography that traces Du Ch�telet's "unorthodox intellectual pursuits" as well as her family life, her life in the courts of French and Polish kings and queens, and her too public (and often mocked and derided) extramarital life, mainly with the reknown Voltaire.

The exact nature of Du Ch�telet's early education isn't known, but after her marriage and several children (of whom only two survived into adulthood), the marquise sought tutors for herself. They, and a great deal of reading taught her geometry, physics, even calculus. Living with Voltaire provided her with cerebral stimulation, some early guidance and the opportunity to collaborate on literary pieces and, to her greater interest, scientific papers.

As time went on, Du Ch�telet became more and more independent of opinion; Voltaire, edgily teasing, called her " 'Emilia Neutonia'" in part because of one of their disagreements about physics: whether Newton's definition of "force, the modern concept of 'momentum'," was correct. Du Ch�telet favored Leibniz's formula (basically, kinetic energy) instead, and she wrote as much in her Institutions de physique (Lessons in Physics), a book in which she tackled, among other big topics: space, time, and matter. This book was published`in 1740, when she was thirty-four. She wrote other scientific works, often considered derivative by her contemporaries and future generations, but which contained her own unique syntheses and conclusions. Her greatest project, on which she labored mightily during her final pregnancy but which was not published until years after her death, was a translation of Newton's Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. It remains the only French language translation in use.

Zinsser sedulously recreates the life and times of Du Ch�telet with a historian's scruples. Often direct documentation of Du Ch�telet's particulars aren't in the record. For example, no letters between Du Ch�telet and Voltaire have survived -- at least none known. And there are precious few personal facts of Du Ch�telet's childhood. So, Zinsser makes due with phrases such as "she may have" and "perhaps she." The reader garners a great deal of knowledge about the conventions, the styles, the economic realities, and the class structure, but the threadbare sections in Du Ch�telet's personal history cannot be denied. As a result, Emilie Du Ch�telet : Daring Genius of the Enlightenment contains a sense of detachment and uncertainty that a biography would rather not have to bear. However, as a vigilant historian, Zinsser wisely simply acknowledges the gaps in the evidence and discusses possibilities.

The marquise's lingering reputation marked her as a woman given to flightiness, airs, and too-public sexual freedom...perhaps because she -- as she said -- lived so her exterior reflected her heart. Her intellectual prowess got tamped down in the silts of time. Perhaps now, Du Ch�telet's legacy can be evaluated in a more balanced manner. Perhaps now, her contributions of the mind can be truly appreciated.

Amazingly detailed biography of female philosophe

The soft cover version of Dame d'Espirit, Zinsser's Emilie du Chatelet explores the life of a 18th century woman driven to expand on the scientific and philosophical debates of her day, while also capable of relishing the social and political duties of upper-class women in Enlightenment France.

Zinsser uses an incredible array of historical sources, from Chatelet's writings, to Voltaire's letters, to inventories of 18th century French homes in her vivid recreation of the period and Chatelet's life. A refreshing and decidedly feminine perspectives on Voltaire and the Republic of Letters is welcome here as we see both historical and biographical paradigms rejected and replaced with new scholarship. Zinsser reasserts du Chatelet's place as a scientist and philosopher in her own right, dispelling much of the sexist and erroneous slander directed at du Chatelet in the last few centuries.

As a historian, I am intrigued and delighted with this book. As a reader, there is a significant portion of this novel that could easily be called boring - in-depth explanations of translating Newtonian theory seriously inhibits the flow of this biography as popular literature. Still, the wonderful detail and insight make it worth a boring chapter or two. James is a bestselling author of two books, 101 Job Interview Questions You'll Never Fear Again and Put Your Mindset to Work, which he co-authored with Dr. Paul Stoltz.
